Take time to appreciate each other this Valentine’s Day!

February can be a forgettable month. Winter still holds most of us in its icy grip and we’re still a good month or two away from the warmer spring weather. It’s pretty apt that Groundhog Day falls in February – particularly this year.

But then there’s Valentine’s Day. Stuck right in the middle of the month, it’s a chance for us to express the love and affection we feel for those we hold dear in our lives. Most people equate Valentine’s Day with romantic love, but I think it can be much more than that. In fact, Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to make your kids feel loved, valued and special, and that the spirit of the holiday can last for the whole month of February.

I’ve started early, leaving these notes on my youngest son (now 16)’s bedroom door. And there’s lots you can do too. Design a special dinner around your kids. Play family games, or spend the evening talking to each other, and more importantly – listening to each other. If you are like me, you could get out a few of those early Valentine’s Day cards and salt-dough hearts they made for you. They may be surprised that you still have those art projects.

So giving your kids positive praise and Valentine’s Day can easily go hand in hand. I’d love to hear what you’re doing to mark the occasion. Let me know!

Aniesa.
